As new close-up shots of the life cycle of Anise swallowtails are taken they'll be uploaded here. Unless you have a 24" monitor, you'll probably need to scroll these to see the entire image.
This first one is a butterfly being released a few hours after emerging. He's hanging onto fennel and getting warmed by the sun. Note the coiled proboscis. These guys are actually pretty furry, aren't they?! And what big eyes they have!
The next one, below, is a close-up image of a cremaster showing its barbed stalks and the silken threads to which it is attached.
